Safety knowledge for the use of argon gas
Release time:2025-01-07
Nitrogen is generally considered a safe gas by most people, but bottled nitrogen or large amounts of nitrogen can cause suffocation, and high-pressure nitrogen can also cause physical harm, which is also something to be aware of.
1、 Physical properties of nitrogen gas
Hazard category: Non combustible gas
Explosion hazard: This product is non flammable and has suffocation properties
Dangerous characteristics: In the event of high heat, the pressure inside the container increases, posing a risk of cracking and explosion
Hazardous physical and chemical data
Explosion limit: lower limit; upper limit; meaningless
Boiling point: (℃):- one hundred and ninety-five point six
Relative density (air=1): 0.97
Critical temperature: (℃):- one hundred and forty-seven
Relative density (water=1): 0.81 (-196 ℃)
Critical pressure (MPa): 3.40
Melting point: (℃):- two hundred and nine point eight
Appearance and strength: colorless and odorless
Health hazards
Excessive nitrogen content in the air causes a decrease in the partial pressure of inhaled oxygen, leading to hypoxia and suffocation. When the concentration of inhaled nitrogen is not too high, patients initially feel chest tightness, shortness of breath, and fatigue, followed by restlessness, extreme excitement, running around, shouting, trance, and unstable gait, known as "nitrogen intoxication", which can enter a state of coma or unconsciousness. Inhaling high concentrations can cause rapid coma and death due to respiratory and cardiac arrest in patients.
When divers dive deep, nitrogen can have an anesthetic effect: if they quickly transition from a high-pressure environment to a normal pressure environment, nitrogen bubbles will form in the body, compressing nerves, blood vessels, or causing microvascular blockage, leading to "decompression sickness".
Transportation precautions
When transporting with steel cylinders, it is necessary to wear the safety helmet on the cylinder. Steel cylinders are generally placed flat and should have their mouths facing in the same direction, without crossing; The height shall not exceed the limit of the vehicle's protective fence and shall be secured with triangular wooden pads to prevent rolling. It is strictly prohibited to mix and transport with flammable or combustible materials. Transport in the morning and evening during summer to prevent exposure to sunlight. Handling and Storage
Precautions for handling: Closed operation. Sealed operation, providing good natural ventilation conditions. Operators must undergo specialized training and strictly adhere to operating procedures. Prevent gas leakage into the workplace air. Handle with care during transportation to prevent damage to the steel cylinder and accessories. Equip with emergency response equipment for leaks.
Storage precautions: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks.
On site emergency measures
Quickly evacuate the scene to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. When breathing and heartbeat stop, immediately perform artificial respiration and chest compressions. Seek medical attention.
